A pair of TU softball and baseball players made news this week in what has otherwise been a down period on campus.
Baseball juniors Josh Bruijn and Brent Slaughter, and softball seniors Katlyn Baxley and Jessica Johnson were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes for the 2014 season.
The announcement was confirmed by TU athletic director Mike Lee on Monday.
“We work hard on the field and we do our best to get kids working hard in the classroom,” Lee told the Times-Enterprise.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
TU’s four were among the 24 selected from the ten conference schools.
“We’re proud that we take up more than our share of scholar athletes,” Lee said. “They work hard and deserve recognition.”
