The NAIA No. 12 St. Thomas University Bobcats (16-5, 9-2) handed Thomas University (12-9, 5-6) its second straight Sun Conference men's basketball loss on Saturday evening in Miami Gardens, Fla., 75-66.
TU opened sharp and executing its offense, taking a 23-6 advantage after junior guard Keldrick Davis knocked down a jumper with 10:54 to play in the half. St. Thomas turned up the offense over the last 10 minutes, outscoring TU 24-12 to make it a 35-30 game at intermission. Senior forward Justyn Watkins led the first-half offense for the Night Hawks with 13 points.
STU tied the game at 39 with just under 17 minutes to play in the game. The teams exchanged buckets and found themselves knotted again at 41. It was the last tie as St. Thomas took the lead and slowly started to steal the momentum.
A three-pointer by freshman guard Dionte Agard, with 11:08 to play made it a five-point game, but TU got no closer. St. Thomas led by as many as 14 in the second half. The Bobcats limited Watkins to only two points in the second half.
TU will host NAIA No. 3 Embry Riddle University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the TU Gymnasium.
