TU women start conference tourney

THOMASVILLE —

The Lady Night Hawks basketball team opens its inaugural appearance in the Sun Conference Tournament on Tuesday.

No. 8 Thomas (9-18, 5-11) takes on No. 1 St. Thomas (16-11, 13-3) in Miami Gardens, Fla. at 7 p.m.

“We are very excited to have made our conference tournament in our inaugural season,” coach Coretta Brown said in a statement. “... Simply saying we’re excited about the opportunity would be an understatement.”

The Lady Night Hawks lost both games to St. Thomas this year by a combined 150-123.

The Lady Night Hawks are hoping they’ve left their recent woes behind them as they begin postseason play. Thomas endured a pair of five game skids from mid-December to early February, with a single victory sandwiched in between.

They capped the regular season with a split 2-2, including Saturday’s road loss to Webber International.

“There’s really three seasons when it comes to basketball: non-conference, conference, and post season,” Brown said. “[We are] thrilled at the opportunity we still have to make a post season run and qualify for the national tournament.”

The winner of Tuesday’s tilt will take on the highest remaining seed on Friday.
