Cairo scores 25 runs in Friday win over Dougherty

THOMASVILLE —

Cairo shook of Thursday’s loss to Thomasville and ran away with a dominating 25-0, mercy rule win in three innings over region foe Dougherty on Friday.

Cairo batted through the lineup four and a half times – four batters made five appearances –while notching 14 hits. Cage Cox and Myles Knight each had a trifecta, and the rest were spread throughout the lineup, coach Ron Best said.

The Syrupmakers scored early and often; jumping to an 8-0 lead in the first on the heels of a two-RBI double from Emery Hancock and an RBI triple from Bailey Lewis.

Brick Kinni pitched all three innings, allowing just one hit while throwing five strikeouts.

“It was quite a different atmosphere than [versus Thomasville] but its a region game and we had to take care of business,” Best said. “We felt OK about [Thursday], but it was nice to get back on the field and get a win.”

The Syrupmakers, who started 1-5, have won three of their last four, and head to Tallahassee on Saturday to take on Leon, the team they lost to in the season opener.

“We scheduled them in the middle of the year on purpose to see where we’re at,” Best said of Leon. “We still had some jitters last time we played them, but hopefully we’ll have a better showing.”
