Bulldogs topple Yellow Jackets

THOMASVILLE — For a half, Thomas County Central kept pace with rival Thomasville.

The Yellow Jackets even led 17-13 at the half of Saturday’s third-place game of the Holiday Hoopfest.

“I think the kids came out with a little more focus (after halftime),” Thomasville coach Ben Tillman said.

The focus showed as the Bulldogs (5-5) outscored the Yellow Jackets 19-5 in the third quarter en route to a 49-34 victory.

“We’re a young team. We’re going to be up a quarter, down a quarter. We’ve just got to ride these waves on out, and hopefully we can pull this thing together by the time February comes,” Tillman added.

Thomasville was held to just two first-half field goals, none in the second quarter, as Central slowed the pace. However, that changed after intermission. The Bulldogs forced the tempo and numerous turnovers with their stifling defense.

Devon Jones scored Central’s only two field goals in the fourth quarter.

“We talked about it at halftime, on our pressure defense they really weren’t pressuring the ball,” Tillman said. “We wanted to make a good, solid effort to come out and put a lot of pressure on the ball.”
