— TU splits twin bill

Thomas Univeristyl (9-4, 4-2) split a Saturday afternoon Sun Conference baseball doubleheader, winning 9-6 and losing 7-3, against the visiting Webber International University Warriors (6-6, 4-2) at Varnedoe Stadium.

 TU will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for a non-conference doubleheader against Edward Waters College on Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m.

 

Central’s Sharpe makes consolation quarterfinal

Colin Sharpe of Thomas County Central advanced to a consolation quarterfinal in the state wrestling tournament on Saturday.

On Thursday, he lost in the first round when he got pinned in the third period with seven seconds to go.  On Friday, he won 9-2 against Blake Kennedy of Forrest Park. He moved on to defeat Calvin Irby of Kell 8-2.



Thomasville wins soccer matches

Thomasville High School beat Cook 4-0 and 5-1 in soccer.

Syrupmakers finish 17th in state

The Cairo Syrupmakers wrestling team finished in 17th place in the state tournament on Saturday.

Marcus Gaines, 170 pounds, finished fifth. Paul Coleman, 160 pounds, finished sixth place. Ryan Roberson, 113 pounds, and Wilder Elliott, 132 pounds, each finished in the top eight.



Warriors win; Lady Warriors fall

The Brookwood Warriors scalped the Tiftarea Panthers 44-41 in the GISA Region 3-AAA basketball tournament at Albany’s Darton State College on Saturday.

Jake Piazza led the Warriors, who finished third in the event, with 13 points. Carter Reed and Steven Trest added 10 and eight, respectively.

The Lady Warriors lost to Calvary Christian 47-32 at Darton College on Saturday.  Leading scorers included Madeleine Harrer with 12 points and Christy Quentin with eight and four, respedtively.

Brookwood’s boys will take on Loganville Christian School at 4 p.m. Thursday at Tattnall Square in Macon.

The Lady Warriors, who finished fourth in the region, will plan Loganville at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Tattnall Square.



Registration set for YMCA track and field

The YMCA track and field program will have a parent meeting at the Butler-Mason YMCA gym at 6 p.m.  on Tuesday. Registration for Track and Field will end on February 22nd.
