Thomas County Central is just starting Region 1-AAAAA play this week but the Yellow Jackets feel like they’ve been here before.
When Central, 4-1 and ranked No. 6 in Class AAAAA, travels to Bainbridge for an 8 p.m. kickoff Friday, the Jackets will be heading into a task similar to the one they faced the last time they headed west on U.S. 84. Central won that game 21-0 against rival Cairo on Sept. 13.
“I would think the whole team is very similar to Cairo, I’d say,” Central coach Bill Shaver said.
That similar look is in large part due to former Cairo defensive coordinator Jeff Littleton being in his first season at the helm of the Bainbridge program. His staff includes a handful of former Syrupmaker assistants as well.
But the similarities go deeper than that, too. Much like Cairo has relied heavily on its defense so far in 2013, the Bearcats enter region 2-2 with a defense that has pitched two shutouts and an offense that has been blanked twice. Bainbridge has scored just 29 points all season, while allowing only 42.
