THOMASVILLE —

It certainly wasn’t the scripted performance Thomas County Central anticipated.

The Yellow Jackets opened region play with a 9-0 loss to Northside-Columbus on Friday a day after routing Brooks, 11-2.

The Patriots pounced to an early 4-0 lead through the first two innings on Central pitcher Cooper Mayhall.

Peyton Singletary assumed the mound after three innings and allowed another five.

Northside pitcher Drew Haywood stole the show by allowing just five hits in his complete game performance. Haywood also notched three strikeouts and threw 16 first pitch strikes.

“Our region is slam full of some very good pitchers,” Yellow Jackets coach Chad Parkerson said.

The Yellow Jackets will have three days to regroup before Tuesday’s home contest against Colquitt County.

Central continues region play, “the money games,” the Yellow Jackets call them, next Friday at Hardaway.

“Colquitt is a very good team also,” Parkerson said. “It’s not like we get a break or anything.

“We’ve just got to re-dedicate our focus when we get back [to practice] on Monday. It’s going to be Baseball 101: Throw strikes, play good defense and get hits when you need them.”
