TU softball drops doubleheader

It wasn’t the return the Lady Night Hawks had hoped.

Thomas dropped Friday’s road doubleheader to Auburn-Montgomery, losing 3-2 in Game 1 and 6-0 in Game 2.

The Lady Night Hawks held a 2-1 lead through the bulk of Game 1 but allowed two runs in the seventh inning to give the Warhawks a steal of a win.

Auburn’s Alexla Boggess led off the inning with a triple, and scored on an ensuing double by Taylor Powell. Therese Byrne followed with another single to move Powell’s pinch runner, Ashlee Craig, to third, where she would score from on an RBI blooper to right field two batters later.

Auburn-Montgomery seized the momentum in Game 2; jumping to a 3-0 lead through the first three innings before securing the 6-0 shutout.

The Lady Night Hawks committed three fielding errors and were held to just two hits in Game 2.

Thomas makes an anticipated return to Thomasville – its first home game in a month – in Sunday’s doubleheader against Coastal Georgia. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
