One of the top teams in the FBS will host one of the top programs in the FCS on Saturday.
The Georgia Bulldogs, ranked No. 5 nationally, will play a non-conference game this weekend when it hosts Georgia Southern, ranked No. 6 in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Saturday's game at Sanford Stadium is a chance for Johnathan Bryant and J.J. Wilcox to make a name for themselves against the SEC East champions. Wilcox and Bryant, two key contributors on this year's Eagles team, are relishing the opportunity to play against the 9-1 Bulldogs.
“We're going in there against a well-respected team, a well-respected team in the country,” Wilcox said. “It's one of the teams I looked up growing up. It's kind of like a dream come true, finally. It's just a privilege. We're going to go in there and play as hard as we can.”
Bryant added, “It's a nice opportunity to be able to play a team like that and the magnitude that comes with it, and also all the hype that everybody's been giving Georgia against Georgia Southern. It's nice (to play them) but it'll be even nicer to come home with a win.”
The Eagles enter this weekend with an 8-2 record, losing only to The Citadel and Appalachian State. It's Georgia Southern's final regular season game before the FCS playoffs. Wilcox expressed confidence that his Eagles could compete with Georgia.
