Thomas University (5-2) came up short in their second game of the year against Bob Jones University, dropping an 83-72 decision in Greenville, S.C., on Saturday afternoon. Thomas University beat BJU 88-75 on Nov. 9, but couldn't quite close the deal Saturday, playing from behind most of the game.
Senior Justyn Watkins led all scorers with 22 points, including 9-of-13 from the charity stripe. Max Grace added a season-high 21 on 9-of-11 shooting from the field.
The Night Hawks took an early lead, but the Bruins answered and stretched the lead to as many as seven, before taking a five-point lead to locker room at halftime. The second half wouldn't be any better for TU, as BJU never trailed by less than eight in the period.
Free throw shooting was the story for the Bruins, who were 33-of-38 from line, while TU managed 17-of-27.
The Night Hawks are back in action on Monday, when they continue their South Carolina swing at Columbia International. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
