Central soccer squads sweep Westover

THOMASVILLE —

The Thomas County Central soccer teams downed host Westover on Tuesday, with the boys winning, 2-1, and girls, 5-4.

The Yellow Jackets jumped to a 2-0 halftime lead with goals scored by Noah Craven and Austin McCloud.

Coach Kristy Peeples said she was impressed with her team’s counter attack and reaction time, which has consistently improved this season.

“Whenever they took the ball away, we were able to just take it right back,” Peeples said. “That gives us a lot of confidence going into Friday’s game.”

That contest will be at Harris County, which will open region play for Central. The Jackets downed Tigers last year, which also gives Peeples boosted confidence.

“The boys are so pumped going into this weekend,” she said. “We’re excited about tonight’s win and the chance to open region play with another victory under our belt.”
