Thomasville falls outside state tourney bubble after loss to Brooks

THOMASVILLE —

Erik McDougald spoke sparingly after the Diamond ‘Dogs narrow, 4-3 loss to Brooks on Thursday.

“I don’t have much to say,” the coach said. “Must win mode on out.”

Thomasville suffered a season sweep to the Trojans, coupled with a 9-8 loss on March 14.

Brooks (10-10, 3-4) now holds a half game advantage – but more importantly, a tiebreaker – over Thomasville (10-9, 3-5) as the season enters its twilight.

The Bulldogs have less than 24 hours to regroup, as they eye their third game in just as many days on Friday against Pelham. The Hornets ousted the Bulldogs, 5-2, on March 18.

After Friday, Thomasville has just three region games remaining – all on the road against Cook, Early and Fitzgerald – to secure the fourth and final seed for the state tournament.
