Thomas University ready to play ball!

Staff report

THOMASVILLE — Thomas University’s softball team will open the 2013 season Saturday afternoon looking to build off on its 2012 NAIA National Tournament appearance.

The Night Hawks will open their slate with a noon doubleheader against College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick.

TU will be searching to reach new heights in a new conference affiliation as it begins it first season of play in The Sun Conference (TSC). Thomas was welcomed to the TSC in July 2011.

With the opening of the West Campus in October 2012, TU has entered the modern era of college athletics with new offices, a 6,000 square foot weight room and 1,200 square foot athletic training room.

"This is a new era for our athletic department,” athletic director Mike Lee said. "We have a lot more we would like to do and want to do, but this is a major step for our athletic programs. We are confident that the results will show on the field and in the classroom.”

Head softball coach Bill Wilson enters his fifth season at the helm and expects to field his best team. The Night Hawks return their top pitcher from 2012. Junior Alexa Fair will be counted on to lead the way after going 8-9 with a 2.31 era.
