TIFTON —  Former Thomas County Central head coach Ed Pilcher was hired Tuesday night as the head coach of the Region 1-AA Berrien Rebels, according to BHS principal Angie Lovein.

In addition to Central, where he won five state championships, Pilcher has also been head coach at Early County and Bainbridge. He resigned from Bainbridge last month after going 30-23 in five seasons.

At Central, Pilcher compiled five state championships and an overall record of 169-54-0 in 17 seasons. His career record is 241-94-1 in 28 seasons.

Pilcher served as an assistant at Berrien under Bill McCall from 1983 to 1985. He replaces Rob Armstrong as the Rebels head coach. Armstrong took a coaching position at Clark Atlanta University last month.
