Mother Nature cancels TU softball doubleheader

THOMASVILLE —

The Lady Night Hawks were plagued by weather woes on Wednesday.

Thomas’ softball team was scheduled to play a noon doubleheader at home against Reinhardt but were forced to cancel the series altogether due to costs.

Both teams are expected to play in the Gulf Shores Tournament in Alabama this weekend, and slated today’s games as an on-the-way opportunity. But because it will be over 500 miles out of Reinhardt’s way to return, it isn’t in its financial interest to do so.

Wednesday’s game was initially scheduled for Monday but pushed back in a last ditch effort for cooperation from Mother Nature.

After the early morning shower on Wednesday, Thomas coach Bill Wilson called the game at roughly 10 a.m.

“It’s kind of a bummer, but you can’t control the weather,” Wilson said. “It’s one thing to get the field ready if the sun is coming out, but that wasn’t the case,” Wilson said. “To try and fight the mud is a whole different game.”

The Lady Night Hawks return to the diamond with two games on Friday against Belhaven and Spring Hill in Gulf Shores, Ala.
