Lowndes Invitational track meet canceled

The Lowndes Invitational track and field meet  was canceled due to heavy rain on Saturday morning.

Though the skies cleared by the intended start time, teams had already been informed of the cancelation.

Thomas County Central was one of the schools set to participate. Boys track coach Harry Skipper made the decision to forego the trip as early as Friday night.

“After looking at the weather forecast all day [on Friday], we decided not to make the trip,” he said.

Skipper said he told his team he’d have a decision made by 10 p.m. on Friday, and stuck to it.

Girls coach Chad Ward, however, was going to hold out until word was official.

Skipper doubts the meet will be made up with Lowndes slated for its spring break next weekend. The Central coach said it would be the first all-out meet cancelation in the four years he’s been the boys coach.

“It’s kind of a bummer, but we’ve just got to roll with it,” he said.

Central will return to the track next weekend at the Capital Ciy Relays at Chiles High School.
