Abby Todd got the big hits that avoided Thomas County Central on Thursday.
In the decisive third game of the Class AAAAA first-round playoff series, the Yellow Jackets left the bases loaded three times, while Todd delivered a bags clearing two-out double to lift Ware County past Central and into the second round 5-2.
“We definitely left too many runners on,” Central coach Robyn Trammell said. “The girls worked hard and we’re a good team. We just couldn’t the key hits when we needed them.”
The 17-14 Jackets, who won the first game of the series Wednesday 3-1 before falling 6-4 in Game 2, couldn’t have asked for a better start in Thursday’s winner-take-all affair. After Erika Greek worked around a walk and a single in the top of the first, Central jumped right on top of the Gators.
After Savannah Morris walked to open the home half of the inning and then Emily Corbitt unloaded on a 1-0 pitch from Todd, muscling it over the fence in center field to put Central up 2-0.
