Wildcats sweep Yellow Jackets

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central’s basketball teams were swept at home on Tuesday by Valdosta.

Valdosta’s girls sprinted to a 24-7 first-quarter lead and surged to a 72-38 victory over the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Central’s boys (1-2) also lost 64-44.

Matt Priest led the Yellow Jackets with 12 points. Denzel Grogan added 11 for Central.

Central’s girls (1-2) were led by Alexius O’Neal’s 12 points. Chelsea McIntyre added eight and Kamaria Lewis scored six for the Lady Jackets.

Central, which finished just 8-for-20 at the free line, trailed 42-19 at halftime.

Central will return to the hardwood on Friday at home against crosstown rival Thomasville.

The Yellow Jackets’ upcoming schedule also includes a Dec. 18 match against Cairo at home.

Central JV wins

The Yellow Jackets junior varsity team defeated Valdosta 43-37 on Tuesday. Damani Lynch scored 11 points to pace Central. Quinton Addison added 11 and Deondre Cooksey scored seven for the Yellow Jackets (1-1).
