Region showdown

Central girls top Bainbridge

THOMASVILLE — Five games into the region season, Thomas County Central’s girls have emerged as one of the top teams in 1-AAAAA.

The Bainbridge Lady Bearcats felt the sting of the Lady Jackets Tuesday night.

Powered by Chelsea McIntyre’s 19 points, Central rolled past its rivals 46-25.

“We saw a lot of hustle, a lot of good work,” Central girls coach Deatrice Hose said. “We definitely saw an improvement on free throws and lay ups. We did see an improvement, definitely, in our defense and our teamwork.”

The Lady Jackets improved to 4-1 in region play.

McIntyre and Tytianna Herring dominated the paint for Central, especially on the glass. The two combined for 32 of Central’s 46 points.

Central’s boys dropped to 7-10 as they fell to Bainbridge 48-42.

Chris Jones and Allen Wade led the Yellow Jackets with 11 points each.
