CAIRO — It didn’t take long for the Thomasville Lady Bulldogs to pull away from their rivals from Cairo Saturday night.

The Syrupmaids (2-4) managed just one field goal in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs, however, scored at will. They built a 17-2 first-quarter lead, led 41-3 at halftime and cruised to a 61-18 rout of the Syrupmaids.

“That was pretty much the plan, to play our game from the start. We’re a fast team, we’re going to play fast,” said Thomasville assistant coach Patriece Brunner. Brunner filled in for head coach Thomas McAboy, who was out of town on Saturday.

McAboy would have been proud of his team’s dominant first-half performance. Thomasville drained five 3-pointers, including two by Laneisha Douglass. The Lady Bulldogs (5-0) also had their way in the paint.

Post player Danisha Jones scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half. Khabriyah Brown also was unstoppable, scoring nine of her 13 in the first half.

Nine different players scored for the Lady Bulldogs.

“It was nice to be able to play a lot of girls and give some other girls some rest and get ready for our next game,” Brunner said.
