Drugs showing up in strangest places

THOMASVILLE — While lawmen are finding drugs concealed in strange places, they also are encountering younger and younger drug users.

On Tuesday morning, the Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander encountered an 18-year-old using methamphetamine with his father.

A 12-year-old Meigs girl was caught smoking crack cocaine recently.

“That’s the youngest we’ve had smoking crack,” Lee told a Tuesday morning meeting of the Thomas-Thomas County Drug Commission.

Lee told Drug Commission members a new aspect of crack cocaine is to use lemon juice to break down the drug so it can be injected.

Lee said methamphetamine, high-grade marijuana and cocaine are popular drugs now, with marijuana being the most popular.

People who use cocaine and methamphetamine also use marijuana, and some people use only marijuana.

Today’s supply of marijuana in Thomas County is often hydroponically grown — and much stronger.

“Hydroponic has such a loud smell,” Lee explained.

The drug is being kept in glass jars to conceal the pronounced odor. In a recent case, marijuana was hidden in a large fake fruit drink can in a refrigerator.

Lee told the Drug Commission he has no explanation for why a lot of marijuana is being hidden in sofa cushions.

Drug dealers rob other drug dealers of drugs and money — crimes that are not reported for obvious reasons.

Lee thinks marijuana might be concealed in sofa cushions to hide it from thieves.

“Maybe they’ve seen that on TV or in a movie I haven’t seen,” he added.
