READERS RESPOND

The following are Facebook responses to Times-Enterprise requests for reader opinions about the “Duck Dynasty” situation:

“We've become a society that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle there has to be a rift. That is a lie. I am capable of loving a person for who they are and not their beliefs.” — Kristi Kent Martin

“This new decision is obviously about money, I could see the Robertsons taking their show to another station when it is all said and done.” — Bobby Dollar

“Everyone has the right to express their opinion without fear of being attacked by others. The Bible does say these things and, if it bother's the gay community, then so be it. No one has the right not to be offended. But they need to act like adults. The whole world will never agree with them — no matter what.” — Winnette Bass Stinson

“When you have an opinion and you are in the public eye, there are impressionable teens and young adults that enjoy the show. I would not want them to ‘camoflage’ their feelings but have respect to speak their way of living for the young and old and everyone in between. Don't speak offensively.” — Carol Pendergast Christian

“Phil Robertson quoted a scripture from the Bible in his ‘infamous’ interview. This verse spoke against ALL sin, NOT just homosexuality. EVERYONE could be and should be offended by his comment. We should all be ashamed of ourselves. I really admire how he has handled this whole situation. He is doing what Christ would do, which is.......speaking the TRUTH.......in LOVE. This is a true example of a Christian and what we, who call ourselves Christians, should strive to be like, freedom of speech or not!” — Susan Brogdon Barwick

“ Here comes Jesse Jackson!” — Leslie Ballenger

“The Bible also says that you cannot be rich or have long hair to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Both of which Mr. Robertson has. I don't think it's wise to use the Bible to support a personal prejudice. Something tells me Phil would have the same views on the gay community regardless of what the Bible says.” — Matt Richardson
