Piggly Wiggly crew ‘pretty shook up’

THOMASVILLE — Staffers at Cairo’s Piggly Wiggly are recovering from the emotional trauma of being robbed at gunpoint.

Two men entered the 1150 U.S. 84 West supermarket a few minutes before 9 p.m. Thursday and demanded money.

One of the stickup men showed a silver handgun and told employees, “You know what time it is,” according to a Cairo Police Department incident report.

A second man went to the store safe and took money.

“The crew is pretty shook up,” John Lyons, store general manager, said Saturday.

The sole customer in the store at the time of the robbery was a regular daily customer who was shopping at the business Saturday morning.

Cairo police could not be reached from comment Saturday, but Lyons said there have been no arrests in the holdup.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” the general manager explained.

Lyons declined to say how much money was taken in the robbery.

The suspects were described as white with their faces covered by masks.

The man wielding the firearm was dressed in dark clothing. The other wore a gray, hooded jacket.

The men ran in opposite directions from the store.
