Hostage situation averted

THOMASVILLE — SWAT responded midafternoon Friday when a Woodland Drive resident threatened suicide with a child in the house.

A 23-year-old woman, who lives at 102 Woodland, was irritated and upset with her boyfriend, said Lt. Wade Glover, commander of the Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.

The woman sent a text to her mother saying she was going to kill herself, and authorities were contacted.

The woman’s seven-year-old son was in the house with his mother when she made the suicide threat, Glover said,

“She was emotionally distraught over the (domestic) situation,” the officer explained.

The woman was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital for treatment.
