Big Oak tour added to Victorian Christmas tours

THOMASVILLE — Among the tours lined up for Friday’s Victorian Christmas is the Big Oak Tree tour.

Joy Slaughter will take guests on three different tours and teach them things they did not know about their hometown. The Big Oak Tour will be Friday, Dec. 13, beginning at 4:30 at the Big Oak Tree that covers parts of Monroe St. and Dawson St.

Guests will see Young’s Female College, the oldest one-story house in Thomasville, and other examples of Antebellum, Victorian and Edwardian architecture. They will also see the grand home of a slave owner and a house that was cut in half.

The tour covers the history of Thomas County, focusing on Antebellum times and the War Between the States.

Price is $10 per person with children under 7 walking for free, cash only. Strollers are encouraged. It is approximately an hour and 15 minutes, with a walking distance of approximately one mile.

It starts and ends at the Big Oak at the corner of Monroe St. and Crawford St. in Downtown Thomasville.

For reservations, please call (229) 403-9804 or e-mail wiregrasswalk@gmail.com. A full list of tours can be found at www.wiregrasswalks.blogspot.com.
