A Thomasville man kidnapped his girlfriend and threatened to gut her if she did not follow his orders, a Thomasville Police Department (TPD) detective said.
At 6 a.m. Thursday, police responded to Western Motel, 16309 U.S. 19 North, where the 59-year-old victim told officers her boyfriend went on an alcohol and crack cocaine binge and threatened to gut and kill her if she did not follow his orders.
The threats began as the couple rode around in the city.
About midnight Wednesday, the man, Ronnie Lamar Yancey, 44, told the woman to go to the motel and get a room.
“He went with her. He made her rent it. He didn’t have any money,” said Scott Newberry, TPD detective.
Newberry said Yancey continued to smoke crack cocaine and drink and raped the woman several times during the night.
“He continued to tell her that if she did not follow his command, he would gut her,” Newberry explained.
Yancey barricaded the motel room door with furniture and held the woman captive, the detective added.
Yancey eventually passed out, and the woman escaped.
Newberry said the woman moved enough furniture to get the motel room door open. Police found a number of pieces of furniture Yancey had used to barricade the room.
The detective said the woman and Yancey met through writing letters as pen pals.
Yancey is charged with kidnapping, rape, aggravated sexual battery and false imprisonment.
The suspect was denied bond and remains behind bars at the Thomas County Jail.
