THOMASVILLE — The two Republican candidates vying for the District 11 state Senate seat will debate at a Times-Enterprise-sponsored event Thursday night.

Mike Keown, of Thomas County, and Dean Burke, a Bainbridge resident, will debate at 7 p.m. at the Thomas County Schools administrative offices auditorium, 200 N. Pinetree Blvd.

Mark Lastinger, Times-Enterprise managing editor, will moderate the event.

Keown said he is excited about the debate.

“That’s what we’ve been asking for is to sit down together and have people ask questions and us answer them,” Keown said.

He said District 11 residents are concerned about jobs, the economy and “a president who sits down and rips off 23 executive orders.”

Keown said District 11 residents want strong state leaders willing to stand up to Washington.

Burke also looks forward to discussing issues.

“I look forward to people hearing my thoughts and what’s on my mind,” he said.
