Sweet Grass Dairy (SGD), one of the country’s premier family-owned handcrafted cheesemakers and one of the South’s largest artisan cheese producers, won third-place for its Green Hill in the Soft-Ripened category at the American Cheese Society (ACS) Annual Conference and Competition in Madison, Wisc.
This was Green Hill’s eighth ribbon in the last 10 years. It has captured first place twice, second place three times and third place three times.
“Being consistent and doing things the right way every day is something we talk about all the time,” said owners Jeremy and Jessica Little. “The fact that Green Hill is being recognized year in and year out — that is humbling and amazing all at the same time.”
This year’s competition attracted more entries than ever — 1,794 different cheeses from more than 250 companies. The competition recognizes the best cheeses in North America and this year received entries from 34 U.S. states, four Canadian provinces, plus one entry each from Mexico and Colombia.
