THOMASVILLE — Throughout July, The Bookshelf, 126 S. Broad St.,is joining 25 other downtown businesses for Shop Waldo Local, an event sponsored by independent bookstores nationwide.

The project is designed to promote small businesses and encourage the community to support local shops, especially this month, when business is usually slow.

Waldo figurines are hidden in 25 of the participating stores in downtown Thomasville. The Bookshelf has a tracking sheet to help participants find and sign off for each Waldo they find in stores. Once all 25 Waldos are found, the sheet can be turned in at The Bookshelf. They will host a drawing on Saturday, July 27, to select the winners. The prizes have been donated by local shops. The grand prize winner will receive a Waldo prize pack.

Annie Butterworth Jones, The Bookshelf co-owner, said “Find Waldo is a fun summer activity for families to do together and it helps kids and their parents remember to shop local and support their main street businesses. Business is much slower than usual this month, and it’s hard to get new customers in the doors.”
