Body of fisherman, 90, found in pond

THOMASVILLE — The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for a missing person on Saturday.

Warren Rehberg, 90, of Thomasville had gone fishing on Saturday afternoon in a pond near his residence on Coffee Road.

Family members noticed the boat floating in the pond without Rehberg in it. They called the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, which responded immediately. The Thomasville Fire/Rescue Department brought in a helicopter to search for the missing man.

Rescuers were unable to find Rehberg on Saturday. They resumed searching on Sunday. About 100 people, including family, friends and personnel from several different agencies, joined the search.

At around 10:30 a.m., Rehburg’s body was recovered from the pond near his home.

Capt. Stephens Jones of the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office said, “It was a very sad day. Our hearts go out to the family during this tragic time.”
