Ice on roads, bridges in north Thomas County

THOMASVILLE — Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) and Thomas County crews responded this morning to ice on bridges in north Thomas County.

DOT and county road crews put sand on state road bridges.

The Thomas County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) reported ice in the following locations:

U.S. 19 North

Highway 111

Highway 111 at the bridge

Bee Line Road bridge east of Ga. 202

Barnetts Creek bridge

Ice is on roads throughout north Thomas County, EMA reported.

Chris Jones, EMA director, said this morning temperatures will remain in the 30s today, with wind.

“Everything on the ground, there’s the possibility of it freezing,” Jones explained.

People should stay off roads if possible.

Jones said citizens should have family disaster kits stocked for circumstances with and without electrical power.

Sleet - but no snow - has been reported in Thomas County this morning.

Thomasville streets were clear early this morning.
