Local NAACP banquet Saturday

THOMASVILLE — The Thomas County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will conduct the organization’s annual banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday at  the Thomasville High School cafeteria, 315 S. Hansell St.

The keynote speaker at the 2014 Thomas County Branch of the NAACP Banquet will be the Rev. Jeremy G. Rich, First Missionary Baptist Church pastor. Rich also is an educator at Bishop Hall Charter School and serves on several local executive boards.

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization.

The NAACP cites the following issues as ongoing priorities:

• Civil engagement

• Climate justice

• Economic opportunity

• Education

• Voter rights

• Federal advocacy

• Health

• Justice

• Legal matters

• Media diversity

The Saturday banquet is open to the public. Tickets are $25 each in advance and $30 each at the door.

Anyone interested in joining the Thomas County Branch of the NAACP may do so at the sign-in table at the banquet.
