THOMASVILLE — A 74-year-old Grady County man died last week from a gunshot wound to the head, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation official said Friday.

Ray Hardy Ponder’s son and grandson found his body near the Ponder home on Wednesday, May 21.

It has not been determined if the death was suicide or homicide, said Steve Turner, special agent in charge of the Thomasville regional GBI office.

“It’s still an active death investigation,” Turner told the Times-Enterprise.

All aspects of the case are being reviewed, Turner explained.

Ponder owned and operated Ponder’s Automotive in Thomasville until his retirement.
