SWGTC commencement is today

THOMASVILLE — At 7 p.m., today in the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium, 181 Southwest Georgia Technical College (SWGTC) candidates for graduation will celebrate the completion of their respective programs of study at the 2014 commencement ceremony.

Graduation is a day of celebration and conferring of degrees, diplomas, and certificates to those students who have completed a program. These 181 students are to be commended for their educational accomplishments as many have made great sacrifices to arrive at this special day.

SWGTC has selected Debbie Griffiths to deliver the commencement address.  Griffiths, a native of South Georgia, was born at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital. She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1975 and went on to pursue a diploma in Practical Nursing from Southwest Georgia Technical College.

Following, Griffiths earned an Associate of Science in Nursing Degree from Georgia Southwestern State University. She later earned a Gerontological Nurse Certification. Griffiths is the founder and developer of Southern Pines, an innovative retirement community located in Thomasville.

She is the author of “Little Lady, BIG DREAM!”, the President of Little Girl, BIG DREAM Inc., and the Executive Producer for Perfect Vision Films LLC .

She has one son, a daughter-in-law, and one granddaughter. She and husband, Bo, continue to make their home in Georgia.

Though officially “retired”, Debbie finds her life busier than ever. Whether rafting her way down Wyoming’s Snake River, donating her time to build youth shelters, or becoming the executive producer of a motion picture, Griffiths continues to pursue her big dreams.

SWGTC offers more than 80 certificate, diploma, and degree programs.

Many of these programs provide training for some of the nation’s fastest-growing career fields including Nursing, Automotive Technology, Clinical Laboratory Technology, and Emergency Medical Technology.
