Steak & burger dinner a success

THOMASVILLE — The Marguerite Neel Williams Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Georgia recently held its annual Steak & Burger Dinner on May 27 with former Rhodes Scholar and NFL draftee, Myron Rolle serving as guest speaker.  Celebrating its 11th year, the dinner was held in the Club’s gymnasium located at 219 Fletcher Street and raised over $40,000 to benefit programs and services for youth ages 6-18.

Rolle, an aspiring Neurosurgeon currently enrolled in Florida State University’s College of Medicine, addressed the 200-plus audience comprised of local and surrounding areas’ business and community leaders. "I am extremely pleased, honored, and excited to have had the opportunity to speak and deliver a message to such an instrumental group at this event,” said Rolle.

“We are so pleased to have had Myron spotlight our event. I’m sure his message to our youth fell on attentive ears and will stay with them for years to come. We are also very grateful for the tremendous support we receive from individuals and businesses each year for this event. This year wasn’t any different, and we are so fortunate to be able to serve a community who readily understands and values our work with young people,” said Art Allen, Executive Director.

Steak & Burger Dinner is MNWBGC’s largest fundraising event of the year for its Thomasville Youth & Teen Center Units. Adults dine on hamburgers while Club Members enjoy a steak dinner. The event is designed to offer the Club’s business partners and other supporters an opportunity to meet the young people whose lives they enrich.  Club members are seated at each table, so guests can interact with the kids and hear first-hand what a difference the Boys & Girls Club and its Teen Center units make in their lives. The event also features a live and silent auction with a chance to win exciting dinner experiences, trips and gift certificates.  Stephen Burton of United Country Auctions of the South served as this year’s auctioneer.
