A Boston police officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from a vehicle he stopped for speeding.
The driver of the vehicle, Antonio Akeem Harris, 23, 8958 Nazah Alice Drive, Tallahassee, Fla., had a suspended license, said Kevin Lee, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander.
A Thomas County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived to assist the police officer, and a search of the vehicle produced 17 small bags of powder cocaine.
“Due to the smell of marijuana, we kept searching the vehicle,” said Kevin Lee, narcotics/vice division commander.
Agents found a small, partially smoked marijuana cigarette Harris admitted smoking.
Harris and a passenger were taken to the Thomas County Jail, where they were interviewed.
“Harris claimed the cocaine and the marijuana,” Lee said. “The passenger was not charged.”
Harris is charged with cocaine possession with intent to distribute and misdemeanor marijuana possession.
The suspect told officers he was en route to a race track near Valdosta.
