Harper Elementary School was recently selected by Gov. Nathan Deal’s office to participate in the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement Reading Instruction Mentor Program.
Local superintendents were asked by the governor to nominate elementary schools that had a strong commitment from building level leadership to improve reading instruction and student achievement.
According to the governor’s office, Harper School rose quickly to the top of the list. It is one of 45 elementary schools statewide to be selected. Jerger and Scott Elementary dchools were also selected.
The objective of this new initiative is to improve early literacy. Literacy skills frequently serve as a foundation for future learning across subject areas.
Each selected school will be provided targeted professional development and instructional coaching to pre-kindergarten through third grade teachers to improve comprehensive school literacy plans.
