A PRESIDENTIAL INVITATION

THOMASVILLE — Members of the Thomasville Music & Drama Troupe have been busy working on holiday music since August, but it turns out their efforts aren’t just in preparation for the group’s 35th annual Christmas Show on Dec. 4.

About two weeks after the curtain comes down on that production, more than 60 of the troupe’s singing teenaged entertainers will travel to Washington, D.C., in response to a recent invitation from the Executive Office of the President to perform at the White House.

Troupe Director Raymond Hughes, no stranger to performance venues that would intimidate many directors (including New York’s Metropolitan Opera House and Carnegie Hall), said he and the student entertainers are excited for the opportunity to sing at the nation’s pre-eminent residence.

“There is just something very special about an invitation to perform at the White House,” Hughes said.  “We are all thrilled to have this opportunity!”

The White House performance is the second in the troupe’s 40-year history.
