THOMASVILLE — A "Meet the Candidates" town hall meeting is set for 6 p.m. on Monday at The Meeting Place, 222 Gordon Ave. The event will feature a quartet of Democrats eyeing the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Saxby Chambliss, who is retiring.

The Thomas County Democratic Party moved to host the forum after the Times-Enterprise was forced to end its sponsorship of citizens meetings because of liability concerns. Initially, Democrat and Republican Senate candidates were scheduled to appear on Monday at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium as part of what would have been the newspaper’s 18th citizens meeting since November 2008.

The decision to withdraw from citizens meetings was made at the corporate level.

Gerald Beckum, Oglethorpe mayor and landscaping contractor; Steen Miles, former state senator, and retired TV news reporter; Branko "Dr. Rad" Radulovacki, sychiatrist; and Todd Robinson, firefighter and retired Army NCO, are scheduled to appear.

Michelle Nunn is unable to attend because of another commitment.
