Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraiser Saturday

CNHI

THOMASVILLE — The fourth annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraiser on behalf of the Treehouse, Thomas County's Children Advocacy Center, kicks off Saturday at Brookwood School.

Beginning at 8 a.m., adults will participate in a 5K, and children will complete a 1-mile Fun Run to help raise awareness of rape, sexual assault and violence against children in the community.

Following the run, men from Thomas County will walk a mile in red high heel shoes to raise donations for the Advocacy Center, a non-profit facility that serves Thomas and surrounding counties with investigations involving crimes against children and sexual assault.

In 2013, the center conducted 82 forensic interviews of children and 40 sexual assault exams, all at no costs to victims.

Participation in the event makes it possible for the center to provide forensic interviews, sexual assault exams, advocacy for victims and other service referrals to victims and their families.

Registration is still open for those who would like to run or walk to support the Treehouse.

Sponsored in large part by the Junior Service League and The Gift Shop, the event encourages supporters to renew their commitment to sexual assault victims.

Registration is still open for those who would like to run or walk to support the Treehouse.
