Prince eager to provide 'common sense'

THOMASVILLE — Ray Prince believes he has the “common sense” to bring efficiency to the Grady County Commission. He is seeking the District 2 seat.

While farming in 1972, Powell was attending Thomas Technical School, now Southwest Georgia Technical College, night and day to obtain his mechanist degree. It was during this time he received the life and business experience that he thinks will help him be an effective leader.

He said, “I have the experience of running a business and equipment, even dirt and roads — the things a commissioner has to deal with on a daily basis. I take the common-sense approach and, here lately, there’s been thrown out the window.”

Efficiency is the “name of the game” for Prince.

“We need to be more efficient with what we have, especially tax dollars. The roads need work because of the bad weather we’ve been having. We also need to monitor the lake situation in Grady County. I don’t see (Tired Creek Lake) bringing in $40 million dollars in the next several years or so,” said Prince.

The farmer has been in Grady County his entire life. He has a deep roots in the community, which started when Grady County was still part of Thomas County.

He said, “I want to try to make it a better place to live for everyone and maintain the infrastructure — and even the Sheriff’s Office, because we need a safe place to live.”

If Prince is elected, he said he will keep an open mind during the decision-making process.

He said, “Never go into a meeting with your mind made up. It’s important to hear both sides to the issue and make an educated decision.”
