The Board of Directors of Thomasville on Stage and Company (TOSAC), along with the cast and crew of “A Raisin in the Sun,” are hard at work rehearsing and preparing to perform the award-winning play.
TOSAC is pulling out all the stops to bring Lorraine Hansberry’s classic play, “A Raisin in the Sun,” to life in ways that will haunt, inspire and thoroughly entertain everyone who attends.
The cast of “A Raisin in the Sun” includes: Christopher Willis as Walter Lee Younger, Ashley Mervin as Beneatha Younger, Selena Wright as Lena Younger (“Mama”), Kathaleena Monds as Ruth Younger, Kamaree Perry as Travis Younger, Javon Malon as Joseph Asagai, Jonathan Law as George Murchison, Allen Banks as Mr. Karl Lindner and Arthur L. Jones III as Bobo.
The play’s director is Melanie Harkness.
Said Nancy Byars, “As a member of the board of directors for Thomasville on Stage and Company, I can say with great certainty that we are very happy and very proud to be presenting ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ as our winter production. Since February is Black History Month, we are especially honored to perform this classic story for our audiences. We truly hope they will enjoy it.”
Harkness said, “This production has been incredibly rewarding to me both personally and professionally. Everyone is working so hard, and everyone is bending over backwards to make sure that everything is just perfect. Our actors have shown great commitment. They live all over South Georgia and North Florida, from Tallahassee to Valdosta to Albany and everywhere in between. The community is already abuzz about ‘Raisin in the Sun,’ and that makes everyone involved with the play feel 50 feet tall. I certainly feel that way.”
Performances are Friday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 1, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m.
TOSAC’s Community Theater is at 117 S. Broad St. in downtown Thomasville.
