Second chance for dogs

CAIRO —  Cats are said to have nine lives. At Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR), dogs are given at least two.

Mollie Johnson, founder of SCAR, helped find a home for 125 dogs in her first five months of operation.

Since December 2006, Johnson has been rescuing animals, mainly dogs. Johnson kept the rescued dogs at her home initially, but realized she had too many.

She started SCAR in June 2012 while continuing to maintain a full-time job.

“I’ve worked for the government, for individual businesses and for veterinarians, but those were all jobs,” Johnson said. “I do this (SCAR) because I love the dogs. They give you unconditional love. This is where my heart is.”

Currently, Johnson hopes to find homes for Mazie, Gracie May and Gucci — three dogs who have overcome many obstacles.
