'Steel Magnolias' opening Friday

THOMASVILLE — Thomasville on Stage and Company will present the popular Robert Harling comedy/drama “Steel Magnolias” as its spring production at the Store Front Theater, 117 S. Broad St. Jana Mohr is making her debut as director of the truly touching, extremely funny and marvelously amiable story of life in the small town of Chinquapin, La.

Anyone who had the opportunity to see the film version starring Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Darryl Hannah, Shirley MacLaine and Olympia Dukakis will enjoy seeing this most recent TOSAC production. One of the unusual features of this show is that Mohr has a double cast. Portrayals of the characters have been choreographed in a way that each cast member can be showcased at her best. It would be hard to choose which cast to see because, according to Mohr, “Both have bonded into cohesive teams that put their own spin on the characters in a wonderful and entertaining way.”

Double casting is only one of the things that make this show stand out. The play will run for three weekends instead of the usual two.

See Wednesday's edition for more details.
