Man attacked near residence

THOMASVILLE — Police are investigating the attack of a man near his Short Broad Street residence early Tuesday morning.

The man told officers he was walking toward his home in the 1100 block of South Broad about 12:20 a.m., when a man armed with a handgun demanded money and told the victim to go to the ground.

The man said he was struck on the head with the firearm.

“The victim was able to knock the weapon from the suspect’s hand and was able to grab it,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.

The victim told police the man chased him to his house and tried to force his way into the residence.

Nothing appeared to be taken from the victim.

Thomas County Emergency Medical Service personnel responded and rendered first aid to the victim.

The suspect was identified as black, short, wearing a white ski mask and black pants.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Criminal Investigations Division at (229) 227-3302 or Crimestoppers at (229) 227-3305.
