Bishop tours Cairo, breaks ground on Tired Creek park

CAIRO — Second District Congressman Sanford Bishop received a grand tour of the city on Tuesday and also broke ground at Tired Creek Lake.

The day began with Bishop meeting with Grady County Commission members and the county’s administrator at the Grady County Clerk of Court to discuss the proposed Tired Creek Recreational Park.

Afterward, Bishop went to the park  location with the commission members and a groundbreaking ceremony and a tour of the grounds.

Bishop marked the occasion as a great milestone, having been involved with the Tired Creek project for many years. He attributed the success to the persistence of many people and noted there were times when it seemed the process would stall or fail.

In the afternoon, Mayor Richard VanLandingham and constituents took Bishop on a tour of Cairo’s work projects. These projects include Teresa Edwards Street, the Downtown Streetscape Project through the Transportation Enhancement Grant, Davis Park and the Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club.

See Wednesday's edition for more details.
