WALMART ROBBED

THOMASVILLE — Two Jacksonville, Fla., men behind bars at the Thomas County Jail are suspects in a Thursday predawn armed robbery at the Thomasville Walmart and a Wednesday night armed robbery at a Dothan, Ala., Walmart.

Darious Dawan Crumbry, 21, 11501 Hart Road, and Nathaniel Orman Cox, 22, 10542 Dodd Road, both of Jacksonville, are charged with armed robbery in the 2:45 a.m. holdup at the Thomasville Walmart.

Cox made two separate purchases of hand sanitizer from the same clerk at the Thomasville store.

The third time he asked for change for a $5 bill, pulled out a small revolver and told the clerk, “ ‘Give me your money,’ “ said Thomasville police Chief Ellis Jackson.

The clerk responded, “ ‘Are you kidding me, with this man standing behind you?’“

Cox threatened to kill the clerk, Jackson added.

The clerk dumped money from the cash drawer on the counter. Cox racked the money into a blue back.

The man in line behind Cox was a Walmart employee making a purchases while on break.

The employee followed Cox out of the store, saw him get into a white Chevrolet Impala and head south on U.S. 19. The Impala exited the highway at Smith Avenue.

A description of Cox and the vehicle were broadcast, and a Georgia State Patrol trooper pulled over the car at a steakhouse at U.S. 84 and I-75 in Valdosta two hours later.

“He (the trooper) recovered a gun and some money,” Jackson said. Thomasville police detectives traveled to Valdosta and returned Cox and Crumbry to Thomasville.

Jackson said the suspects have been convicted of aggravated assault and burglary.

The chief said Cox and Crumbry held up a Dothan Walmart at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Dothan store manager was injured when Cox struck her on the head with a firearm.

“He (Cox) was in the Walmart in Dothan about two hours looking for the manager,” Jackson said. The suspect knew the manager had keys to cash registers.

Cox hijacked a female customer’s vehicle and fled. The vehicle was recovered on U.S. 84 near Dothan.

Jackson said authorities know Cox’s role in the two holdups, because he was seen on video at both stores.

The Impala in which the suspects were traveling when captured was a rental car borrowed from a Jacksonville friend.

Cox and Crumbry are awaiting arraignment.
