Cairo man charged in '12 rapes

THOMASVILLE — A Cairo man who has been a suspect in Thomasville rapes reported in 2012, has been charged with five offenses.

Mark Allen Flynn, 46, 2630 Pine Acre Drive, Cairo, is charged with rape, child molestation, impersonating a public officer or employee, kidnapping and firearm/knife possession during a crime.

Flynn was arraigned in Thomas County, denied bond and returned to the Grady County Jail, where he has been held since October on similar charges.

In Thomasville in August 2012, police began receiving reports about a man driving a red truck picking up women and raping them.

“He had a small black-and-gray gun,” said Louis Schofill, Thomasville Police Department detective. Victims described the firearm to police.

Similar incidents were occurring in Grady and Mitchell counties. A man was picking up women and raping — or attempting to — rape them.

“The person would tell some of the women he was a police officer, and they were under arrest for being a prostitute,” Schofill said.
