Staff report

THOMASVILLE — Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) will present a concert of “Musical Valentines” on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary of Trinity Anglican Church, 325 W. Jackson St., Thomasville. The concert is part of ACTU’s Sundays at Four series and will feature performances by pianist Bill Raiford, soprano and pianist Rebecca Fadell, violist Sally Hernandez, vocalist Lisa Mitchell, flutist Karl Barton and pianist Jim Amend.

“I'm excited about this program because Bill Raiford will be performing an original ballad he wrote while a cadet at West Point,” said Karl Barton, series coordinator. “It captured the attention of Eddie Fisher, who was at that time an officer on detail to the Academy.”

The program will also include love songs by Samuel Barber performed by Rebecca Fadell, an eclectic mix of songs featured on movie soundtracks performed by Lisa Mitchell, and a few Valentine surprises from Hernandez, Barton and Amend to round out the afternoon.

“This will be our first concert of the season back at Trinity,” Barton continued. “Paul Liljestrand gave such attention during the construction to make the sanctuary work for live music that it is always a great pleasure to perform there. We are all happy to offer our ‘Musical Valentines’ to the community.”

The concert is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5 per person. A reception will follow the performance. For additional information, visit www.thomasu.edu/actu, call (229) 227-6964 or e-mail actu@thomasu.edu.
